Ahascragh Distillery

The challenge

Ahascragh Distillery was managing production and maturation on paper, clipboards and spreadsheets. Operators recorded flow rates and ABV data by hand, then entered it into a computer later. The process was slow, vulnerable to error, and difficult to scale.

As the cask inventory grew, so did the need for better visibility. Private cask owners wanted clear proof of ownership and traceability from grain to glass, but the team could not keep adding manual admin every time the business moved forward.

The solution

Proof 8 was introduced across the operation from day one. Operators enter data directly on iPads on the production floor and in the warehouse.

The Recipe Builder gives the team a clear way to create and lock production plans against Standard Operating Procedures. The Production Scheduler helps them see what is happening today, next week and next month, from mashing and distillation through to cask filling.

Each cask is assigned a Digital Deed when it is filled. That creates a digital record of what is in the cask, when it was filled, where it is stored, and who owns it.

The outcome

Ahascragh now has real-time visibility across production and maturation. Recipes are controlled more consistently, and reports are available quickly for compliance and audit purposes.

Private cask owners can log in and see where their cask is, what is inside it, and view a warehouse photo. That level of transparency has become an important part of the customer proposition.

As the English whisky category moves towards Geographical Indication status, the digital audit trail supported by Proof 8 will become increasingly important for provenance and future growth.
